How to fix Shopify CSV import errors
A supplier catalogue can look correct in Excel and still fail during an import. Start with the structure of the file, then check the fields and the way product variants are grouped. Keep a copy of the original before editing.

1. Separate a file-format problem from a data problem
If a whole row appears in one column, the delimiter is likely wrong. A spreadsheet can export semicolons or tabs even when the file name ends in .csv. Prepare a comma-separated output and quote cells that contain commas, quotes or line breaks.
A broken quote can shift every later value into the wrong column. Do not fix this by blindly replacing all punctuation: a comma inside a description is valid when the cell is quoted.

2. Check the selected headers and character encoding
Match your supplier columns to the Shopify import format rather than changing the file extension. A column called Selling price needs an explicit mapping to the price field. A supplier reference can be a SKU, a parent reference or something else; those meanings are not interchangeable.
Use the current official Shopify CSV template. Column labels have evolved, so check the template and documentation before relying on an older tutorial. UTF-8 avoids many problems with accented characters. Review the first few rows after any encoding conversion.
3. Treat missing prices as missing data
A blank price is not a zero price. Catalog Ready blocks a missing price instead of inventing one. An explicit zero price also requires confirmation. Choose the number format of the source file so that 19,90 becomes 19.90 without silently changing the amount.
If a value such as 1,234 is ambiguous, check whether it means a decimal or a thousands-separated amount. Never convert a negative value to a positive one automatically. Supplier currencies must be consistent: this tool does not convert exchange rates.
4. Review the product-variant structure
Use an explicit parent reference to group sizes and colors. Two rows with the same title are not enough to establish that they belong to one product. Within a product, option names must be consistent, and a combination of option values must not appear twice.
Do not delete rows just because they look repeated. Existing Shopify exports may contain separate image rows. Catalog Ready is intended for supplier rows describing new products or variants, not for bulk updates to existing products or image-only Shopify rows.
5. Test a small import before the full catalogue
The checker validates the file and produces an auditable report, but cannot inspect products that already exist in your store. Import a small subset into a development or test store first. Verify titles, variant options, prices and images before using the full catalogue.
Keep new products in draft and do not select an overwrite option unless you have separately planned an update. Catalog Ready does not connect to your store, publish products or make changes on your behalf.
